Positive Moves that SNFs
can make in a challenging
environment.

We are now few months into a
major Medicare reimbursement
cut to SNFs. There is no question
that this is a challenge for our
customers, and is causing them
to look closely at all aspects of their
business. Are service and quality cuts the only answer? This industry authority doesn't think so. Check out the blog below to see some helpful suggestions to encourage SNFs to think beyond the doom and gloom and move forward in a challenging environment.

Reg's Blog: Post Payment Reductions -
Build a Revenue Model for Success

"The typical reaction from most providers I work with is a quick turn to expense reduction as a means of combatting reducing revenues. Often times, the immediate actions taken provide only a short-term respite to margin erosion followed closely by a steady erosion of margin. The reason? The most apparent and easiest places to cut such as staffing reduce service and quality. Consistent reductions in care are followed by consistent erosion in revenue via occupancy or alternatively, higher expenses in the form of staff turnover, compliance problems, etc. The plain fact of health care life and frankly, business life in general is that a company cannot save itself to a consistent profit"

The blog goes on to give 3 real world examples of how making investments that improved their occupancy, payor mix and patient quality and service actually improved margins. You can read the full post here.

We would love to hear your stories on any positive steps you have taken or are taking to deal with the new reimbursement reality. Help inspire us all to make our industry stronger and better, not weaker. Feel free to post them on our Facebook or Twitter.

Download Mythbusters featuring Axiom Mobile
Imaging on iTunes

Did you catch the Mythbusters episode that featured Dr. Ken Steele? The episode is from Season 10 and is called "Dodge a Bullet". It first aired in May 2011. In that episode, Adam and Jaime test if you can jump out of the way of a bullet, while Kari, Grant and Tori (and Axiom, with our friends at MedWeb) test if hitting water from a great height is just like hitting pavement in the other segment called "Water vs. Pavement". As usual, the Mythbusters were very innovative in figuring out how to test their hypothesis, without making Kari barf. Axiom was thrilled to help out with this project by providing on the spot instant x-rays on their flying pigs. You can download the episode for $2.99 or even the full season, from iTunes by following this Link to watch the aftershows and then clicking on the "Download to iTunes" button. Interestingly, it was not the first time we've x-rayed pigs, but that's another story...

Axiom Wows at CAHF Convention!

Axiom recently got back from attending the California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) 61st Annual Convention November 13-16th in Palm Springs. All we can say is: "Wow!" We really want to thank everyone that came by our booth. We were blown away by the interest we got in our services and the non-stop traffic. As you know, Axiom announced our expanded services to Southern California last year at the CAHF convention. This year we came back to CAHF with a proven track record of providing noticeably better imaging service to SoCal customers. Our lab associates have a proven track record of delivering faster and more reliable laboratory results. The word is getting around that there is a choice in SoCal. In these tough times, facilities are looking for the best service value that they can get in order to impress their patients and referring doctors who help to fill their beds. Facilities are looking for vendors that will work with their staff to help them manage their bottom lines while simultaneously improving patient care. Axiom is that proven partner. We help make our facilities look great to their customers, and give them that needed competitive edge. Take a look at these testimonials:

"The staff is pleased with Axiom's responsiveness and professionalism. They were blown away by the quality of your films. But more importantly, they were very pleased to have Dr. Steele take the time to visit them and "talk shop". I truly believe that we will see these physicians refer more patients to us because of our affiliation with Axiom. "

- Craig Clayton, Administrator,
Shoreline Healthcare Center, Long Beach, CA

"Axiom has found ways to partner with us by teaching our staff as well as our physicians about their products and demonstrating their technology. They also identified areas in our partnership that could be improved to help us save money and ensure that our quality of care and responsiveness to patient needs were better than ever. We look forward to working with Axiom as partners for many years to come. "
